This article assumes that you already have a drapery rod properly mounted and balanced ready to recieve a drapery. If you need to install a drapery rod see our article "How to Install a Drapery Rod" located on this web site.
One of the most confusing things about hanging a drapery on a rod is knowing which holes the drapery pin hooks go into. On any traversing drapery rod, the rod will have a master carrier (in the case of a two-way rod, there will be two master carriers).  Begin hanging each panel at the master carrier and work back to the end of the rod. A drapery will typically have a pin hook in the leading edge of the drapery and a pin hook in the first pleat. These two pin hooks go into the first and third holes on the master carrier (see illustration).
The pin hook in the second pleat of the drapery goes into the first plastic carrier. Continue to place each pin hook into the the plastic carriers one after the other until there are only two pin hooks remaining, one in the last pleat and one on the back edge of the drapery.
At this point if there are any remaining plastic carriers in the rod remove them by opening the plastic gate located in the end pully assembly. The gate is opened by rotating the lever toward the master carrier. This will allow the extra carriers to slide out of the end of the track. Be sure to close the gate again so the remaining carriers do not slide out when operating the rod.
 Finish hanging the drapery by placing the second to last pin hook in the very last hole on the rod. Wrap the drapery around the corner of the rod and place the last pin hook in the bottom hole of the end bracket that is mounted on the wall (see illustration).
A Note About Drapery Pleats:
When a drapery is made, the factory puts a stiffening material called crinoline in the top of the drapery to help the pleats keep their shape. As the drapery leaves the factory, the crinoline material is folded backward for ease in packaging. After hanging the drapery on a rod, the crinoline must be folded forward to allow the drapery to open and close properly. Push the material between each pleat forward and crease it with your hand (see illustration). Open and close the drapery several times to make sure it operates smoothly and that the drapery stacks properly.
